Other than food and makeup, my other interest is in home furnishing. I enjoy browsing through furniture catalogues and websites, thinking of how to design rooms. I like my furniture to be carved out of wood and painted, rather than the ubiquitous laminates you get from built in custom made furniture. My current interest lies in Shabby Chic furniture. I’ve been searching about it a lot as it’s not very common to find it in Singapore. Similar themes are French, baroque, Victorian, English, cottage, country, Manhattan, just to name a few. I’m no insider of interior design so these are just some terms I picked up from everywhere. So to help like minded people who loves shabby chic and lives in Singapore, here’s a list of where you can get stuff:
23 Serangoon Central #04-13/14 and #04-73/74/75
Nex Shopping Mall
Singapore 556083
This is a rather large store and surprisingly the prices are not exorbitant. I think they originated from Malaysia. They not only sell furniture, but also decorative items, curtains (pretty ones, not the ugly 10 year ago design ones you get from normal curtain shops) and dining ware.
100 Haig Road
Dunman View #12-01
Singapore 438797
Isn’t that lace corset chair lovely! It cost $650. Their products seem more French/Manhattan/ baroque to me than the classical cottage or English style, and also more classy than shabby chic. Then again, I could be wrong with these terms as I’m not a pro. It seems like their products can be part of Antoinette.
Blk 34 Whampoa West
#01-55,
Singapore 330034
I saw their advertisement in the newspapers. Not sure how much are the products but they’re unmistakably from china. If you search hard enough, you can find such items on Taobao or Alibaba.
They don’t really have a showroom and I guess you have to choose from pictures while they order it for you. The prices are quite high for this. The products are made in china. (Update 2014: Shabby chic style is no longer available here!)
5 Marine Parade Central
#01-01 to 04 (Level 1 & 2)
Singapore-449410
Their furniture is Manhattan/ baroque style rather than shabby chic. It’s very nice but very expensive.
# 01-30/31 Great world City 1
Kim Seng Promenade
Singapore 237994
Hailing from UK, this brand is not cheap. They don’t exclusively sell furniture but have other stuff too.
The Cottage Crafts
37 Ann Siang Road
Singapore 069715
This shop provides interior consultancy other than just retailing furniture. Most items are not displayed and you can choose from a catalogue. Prices are quite high but quality is good.
160 Paya Lebar Road/ International Furniture Centre 62 Sungei Kadut Loop
No fancy baroque style or anything classy, but more of a cottage like style. They have everything in white too. Prices are not cheap but more affordable than Cottage Craft, I think. They have several show rooms I think, but I only remember seeing Sungei Kadut’s and one along Paya Lebar Road.
This is an online webstore but I think I saw similar bedroom sets at Defu Furniture, so you may like to try there. It’s pretty inexpensive! The above 5 piece set cost $1577. And of course, there’s always Scandinavian Ikea. Keywords you can search for in Ikea is:
Once my shabby chic room is ready, I’ll update this space! Watch out if you’re interested in home furnishing.

And since u like shabby chic theme, u can further distress ur wood furnitures w sandpaper to achieve the distressed look. Cheers!
