Mitsuba by Yurine Japanese Restaurant – Dinner

So the infamous “nazi chef” from Chikuwa Tei (and 3 years ago – wasabi tei) has moved on to another restaurant. This time, the location is more easily accessible, at The Central. The prices have increased slightly but the menu is almost identical.

As rather regular customers of the old restaurants, we decided to give this new venture a try. On a Friday night, they were quite packed and we had to wait for a table.

Sea urchin – $25.00++

I love sea urchin and was excited to have this, but to our dismay, the portion was tiny and the quality was lacking. I wouldn’t recommend these. It was kind of mushy. The size of the saucer was like the size of those to put the soy sauce – very small.

Mekajiki (swordfish) – $15.00++

Sashimi Moriwase – $30.00++

Chirashi Don – $28.00++

I ordered the Sashimi Moriwase as I didn’t want to have rice. However, I was disappointed when the food arrived, as there wasn’t a stark difference between the sashimi amount of the moriwase and the chirashi don. The shashimi moriwase has 1 more (small) mekajiki, but the chirashi don had tamago and uni. It doesn’t really makes sense that way, because the chirashi don comes with miso soup, otoshi, and a small dessert. Even if I discard the rice, it makes better value than ordering sashimi itself!

The quality of the sashimi was fresh and good, and it was cut the chef’s signature thickness. Previously at chikuwa tei, I had sashimi of a different thickness hence I sensed that they changed the chef (which they did).

As usual, the service was very non existent. On the menu they stated the same, rather unreasonable, policy of 2 seatings for dinner (6:30pm – 7:45pm and 8pm – 10pm) and stuff. So I guess they intend to keep up their ‘tradition’ of not providing good customer service. For people who want to try their food, bear in mind to treat this as an eat and go place rather than a place to enjoy dinner.

*****

Ambiance: 6.5/10

Food: 7/10

Value: 6.5/10

Overall: Given this price hike and consistency in poor service, I can’t say I would recommend this place again. Perhaps if you want sashimi, you may try your luck at wasabi tei or chikuwa tei in hope that they use the same supply, at a lower price!
