When I approached the hotel’s concerige for recommendation of restaurants in Hyatt she recommended mezza9 as their award winning restaurant. Mezza9 is an international restaurant with various kitchens serving all kinds of food. The restaurant is very big and they do Sunday brunch buffet on Sundays.
Until the end of July, they offer the Black Onyx steak which is a 300day fed cattle from Rangers Valley. This is a type of black angus cow and the marbling score is about 3. The only option they have here is 250g Sirloin.
After looking through the menu, I decided to go with the steak with some yakitori to share (I know, weird combination, and I subsequently regretted).
Mezza9 salad – $15.00++
This salad was all greens but I found it quite pleasant. Good for salad lovers.
Yakitori – $38.00++
Now, I only ordered this because I saw certain people on instagram raving about it, being the best in Singapore and along that line. I must really beg to differ. Most of the items are not even warm (the weak charcoal below isn’t really helping) and some of them doesn’t even taste good. I would highly NOT recommend trying the yakitori here. I think ToriQ does it better even, at a fraction of the price, and Nanbantei next door at Far East Plaza has it WAY better.
Black Onyx Sirloin 250g, 300 days fed – $48.00++
This was the highlight of the meal. I am no fan of sirloin steak but I realised with good cooking techniques it can be pleasant too.
At mezza9, their charcoal grilled steaks are very well executed. My medium rare steak was done perfectly throughout and there was no such thing as uneven doneness. The beef was juicy and very tasty and I would recommend trying this is you happen to dine at mezza9.
Good steaks are best eaten without any sauces hence I didn’t get any.
The prices here are overpriced but they do have this Club Hyatt membership which costs $288++ a year, where you’ll get 50% off the bill if you dine in 2s. I guess that’s the actual price it should have been and non-members simply got to pay double.

Ambiance: 7/10
Food: 8/10 (not including the yakitori)
Value: 7/10
Overall: minus the yakitori and it is a good meal. I would rather get a bottle of wine instead if I could choose again!
