Afternoon tea is extremely popular among Singaporeans nowadays and on weekends you can expect the popular ones at 5 star hotels to be fully booked. The English Afternoon Tea Buffet ($45.00++) at Goodwood Park Hotel is one of them and with reservations only 2 days beforehand we only managed to get the earlier slot at 12pm instead of the usual 3pm timing. Nevertheless, I was excited to try it because it’s been too long since I last had tea!
Savoury canapé
Finger sandwiches and croissants
Duck rilette
Cheese
Scones
Desserts
Cakes and fruits
Chocolate fondue
Among the canapés my favourite was the foie gras terrine! I went back for seconds and thirds despite being stuffed.
I was very excited when I saw a cheese section because I love cheese tasting and that’s only possible at buffets. I mean I could buy several kinds of cheese and enjoy it at home but realistically I cannot finish everything before expiry all by myself. I also like the accompaniments provided here like the jelly even though the cheese is good to be eat alone. Here they have caprice, blue, compte, boursin and brie. The selection was pretty safe and somewhat boring but good enough! I liked all of them, except for boursin which is quite out of place here.
The scones were very decent and is more cake like than crumbly like. I was happy to see a whole lot of devonshire cream provided and happily went overboard with it.
The cakes and desserts on the other hand was not very fantastic.
The ice cream was just normal too. It looks like it was provided just to satisfy children.
The drinks are provided upon ordering and each person is entitled to 2 drinks. The service was on the slow side and it took a while for the drinks to be served. TWG tea is used here and the selection was quite extensive. A lot of other drinks are provided too, like milk or hot chocolate.
Generally the standard of food here is just average I find, with the cakes and desserts being below average. However, there’s only so much one can eat and I think sticking to the canapés, finger sandwiches cheeses, duck rilette and scones while enjoying hot tea is good enough. Do not waste stomach space on the desserts and cakes!
