Chako – Dinner

Tried out a very secluded Japanese restaurant recently. Actually, it’s not VERY secluded, because there’s a bus stop right next to it. But the whole “shopping centre” was pretty run down and old, so it looks secluded. The photos are accumulated from 2 visits. Before visiting, you have to know what you’re in for. For this particular restaurant, you got to wait. If you do not want to wait, DO NOT VISIT. By wait, I mean 1-3 hours. Because they claim they cook everything from scratch, and on the spot.

The restaurant is small and homely – nothing grand at all. It looks very traditional. It is owned by a Japanese family.

Grilled shishamo

Spinach and eggs

Oden – this was really good!

Beef katsu curry rice set

Chako set, which consist of fish

Hamburger steak set

The hamburger patty was too watery for my liking. I would prefer something firmer and drier.

Unatama Ju

The unagi and eggs on rice was a little soggy

Matcha pudding

This was really good! it’s not sweet and they claim they used minimal sugar so it’s not sinful.

Coffee jelly

Caramel pudding

I prefer the matcha pudding over this one

Tofu cheesecake with chocolate truffle

Now this one’s a VERY light cheesecake. You can taste the tofu in it. It’s not creamy or sweet, so you won’t feel the guilt from having cheesecake. The chocolate is bitter sweet too. it’s quite good, but I still prefer the matcha jelly. The tofu cheesecake at Sun with Moon was better.

*****

Ambiance: 6.5/10 (gave it some credit for creating the “I am in Japan” feeling, but I would prefer a nicely done up restaurant)

Food: 7.5/10

Value: 7/10

Overall: if I have a lot of time to spare, I’ll revisit!
