Salt Grill & Sky Bar – Lunch

Sallt Grill & Sky Bar is a relatively new restaurant in Singapore.

Salt grill by Luke Mangan brings Modern Australian cuisine to Singapore. Regardless of location, Luke aims for a setting that is stylish, relaxed, welcoming and showcases the best of Australian produce. The opulent and iconic ION building is the perfect platform to share Luke’s talent with Singapore.

It’s located on the 55th floor of Ion Orchard.

This was my 3rd stop for restaurant week.

The restaurant was very brightly illuminated with natural lighting during lunch.

Requesting for a window seat is important! The view was beautiful.

The bread, though looking plain, was actually above average. My dining partner loved it and proclaimed that it’s one of the best around.

‘Salt’ salad – seasonal baby vegetables, slow poached hen’s egg, buffalo mozzarella, candied walnuts

I loved this! It’s the first time in my life ever that peas tasted this good.

Yellowtail sashimi

Barramundi fillet, miso mayonnaise, green beans with confit eschallot

Being a fish lover, I ordered this. It was good. The fish tasted fresh and it was well cooked.

Pan fried potato gnocchi, sweet corn, zucchini, asparagus, lemon thyme, parmesan, truffled verjuice

It was his first time trying gnocchi and it didn’t seem to impress him.

Coffee and petit fours. The coffee wasn’t good.

The set lunch which consists of 2 courses cost $40++/pax during restaurant week. I found out later, that the regular set lunch cost only $38++/pax. However, the yellowtail sashimi wasn’t available for the normal set lunch.

*****

Ambiance: 10/10

Food: 8/10

Value: 6/10

Overall: it’s the view which made the meal worth the price. Otherwise, I wouldn’t really recommend this restaurant. Osia at RWS would be a better choice for Australian cuisine.

    • Hi!
personally i’ve only been there in the day time so i can’t comment much about the night view.
however, for Equinox which has a similar high rise view concept, i’ve been there for both day and night and they’re both equally beautiful. for day time you’ll get to get a clearer view of the surroundings, and it’ll be interesting that way. whereas for night, you can only see lights from far away and it becomes more romantic.

if your intention is to chill out, relax and enjoy a romantic session perhaps going at night is better. do check out the menu on salt’s website as they serve in the afternoon and at night as there’s quite a bit of difference in the food and the price!

  1. Hi there:), nice review…
If asked to choose for the night view… Which place do u choose? Salt Grill Sky bar or Equinox/Jaan or 1-Altitude?

    Thx

    • Hi Joe,

sorry but for night view i’ve only been to Equinox, and I haven’t tried 1-Altitude yet. However, I think Equinox or 1-Altitude would be better than Salt if you think the view of MBS and the bay is what makes a good night view. From Salt, the view of the CBD is not that clear since it’s further away. You get a close view of Orchard though. Orchard Road is not very visible from Equinox.

Persoanlly i feel the night view from Equinox is very pretty already. but from what i’ve heard, 1-Altitude is actually taller than Equinox so i guess the view would be as good or maybe even better.
