The Tavern – Lunch

My second stop for restaurant week was The Tavern. I’ve been there during the last restaurant week and I loved their steak. I had the Grilled Prime US Rib-eye steak previously and it was very good.

This was the menu, which cost $35++ for 3 courses.

On the restaurant week website, they menu stated that for lunch they would have Angus Rib Eye. However, when I got there, we were presented with something else.

The steak served was only NZ rib eye steak, which is what is known to the layman as the normal steak.

Ragout of Mushrooms

The mushrooms taste like cream of mushroom soup.

Greenland Bay Shrimp Chowder

Personally, I preferred the scallop chowder I had during my previous visit over this one.

Grilled NZ Rib-eye Steak

The meat wasn’t as juicy and tender as the Grilled Prime US Rib-eye I had during my last visit, but the flavour and freshness was good. It was still tasty, but it can’t hold a candle to the Prime US Rib-eye or Angus Rib-eye. Afterall, the problem lies with the cow itself, not the cooking. But comparing to other steaks using similar beef, this one was still better. However, they got my doneness wrong. I ordered medium rare and this came like a medium – medium well.

Baked Pineapple with Vanilla Ice Cream

Panna Cotta with Strawberries

Comparing to the panna cotta I had yesterday, this was actually tastier. It was creamy, rich and milky. The strawberry ice cream was very tasty too. It wasn’t too tangy and sour like typical strawberry ice creams (I’m referring to those made with real strawberries).
