This restaurant is quite renowned and has a history of several decades I guess. It must be really popular to survive that long, in the competitive F&B scene in Singapore. However, I must add that restaurants of their genre are not very common. The most common Yakitori/ Kushiyaki we get in Singapore is probably from the takeaway joint, Tori-Q, which is also very popular. We also have chain restaurants like Shin Kushiya (never tried) but that’s about all l know of.
I have been curious to try out their yakitori for some time, and today’s a good chance since I was in Far East Plaza for a day spa, since for lunch they offer several sets which are very value for money.
Century Egg Tofu – $5.00++
We ordered this as a side. The tofu was very smooth and soft while the century egg was not too overpowering. I would have this again.
Chicken stuffed in mushroom – $6.40++/ stick
This is not something to die for so I guess it’s kind of overpriced.
Yakitori Bento – $13.00++
For $13.00++ the value is unbeatable, with 5 sticks, miso soup, rice and some condiments. It comes with dessert too!
Pork Don – $15.00++
For myself, I opted for the Pork Don set. It comes with a generous serving of pork served on rice, a bowl of salad with Japanese dressing, Hiyayakko (cold tofu), miso soup and 2 wedges of watermelon. The pork was very tasty and well seasoned. It is a good alternative to the one from Ootoya if $23.50++ is too much to pay for a pork don. The other sides were pretty good too. I would recommend this set!

Ambience: 6.5/10
Food: 7.5/10
Value: 7.5/10
Overall: For lunch in Orchard, this is a pretty good choice as it is value for money and up to standards, provided you like the umami Japanese flavours of yakitori.
