I happened to be at Raffles City on a weekday and had to settle lunch there and it was an opportunity for me to try a weekday set lunch which I normally do not have the time to try.
I settled for Halia at Raffles Hotel, which is relatively new there.
It wasn’t packed, but was fairly crowded, with a mix of tourists and office workers.
For lunch, they offer the A La Carte menu as well as a set lunch menu, which is $25++ for 3 courses and coffee or tea. This is only for Monday – Friday, whereas for weekends they offer the Brunch A La Carte options during lunch time.
Iced Halia Infusion – $10.00++
This iced tea is their house speciality of sundried ginger & wild mountain honey. A refreshing drink indeed, suitable for a hot day.
Soup of the Day
This was part of the set lunch. I was told that this soup was some curry soup and majority of the flavour I made out from tasting it was indeed curry. It was a spicy kind of soup, very Asian (Indian) influenced.
Smoked Salmon Bagel
This was the main for the express lunch. On the menu it was actually a beef sandwich but for that day, they changed it to this. It was alright, but nothing too special. The fries were good though!
Halia Chilli Crab Spaghettini – $25.00++
This is their famous dish at Halia and my dining partner ordered this. I found it to be quite tasty and this is something uniquely Singapore with a twist. Perhaps it would appeal more to tourists and foreigners who want to have taste of Singapore, in a restaurant. Singaporeans on the other hand, may prefer to get the real deal and have chilli crab instead of a fusion version. However, I do think that the sauce was quite good.
Ginger Nougat Parfait
This was my dessert for the express lunch. This is also Halia’s signature dish. Indeed it was very unique, and was packed with ginger taste. I am not a fan of ginger, but when sweetened I can accept ginger. It was somewhat like ice cream, or rather, a frozen block of cream with ginger flavour and nougat.
Tea
This was part of my set lunch and they didn’t have options for the tea. I noticed that the tea here was exceptionally thick.
