It was tough looking for a lunch place on Sunday, since most of the places I know of are either closed, or serve a buffet brunch instead. I settled for Bistro Soori which offers a 3 course brunch menu. Even though most of the options are typical breakfast food, they do have items which are not so that’s great for me, as I am not into the all-day breakfast kind of thing.
Locating the place was not easy peasy, but still quite easy since it was not that far from the main road. Despite the not so beautiful location, my first impression upon stepping in was that the restaurant was so beautiful!
This is from their website. It was very green, clean and airy, like a kitchen from a holiday apartment. Very modern and simple but somehow most other restaurants I’ve been too doesn’t opt for this look.
There are numerous options for each course which left us spoilt for choice. 3 courses cost $39.90+. They do not charge GST here.
Arugula Salad, Pistachio, Shaved Onion, Fine Bean, Truffle Vinaigrette
I love rocket salad so this was my choice of starter. The portion was not small and it left me half full. I really loved this salad, as the combination was well thought of and the dressing was so delicious with truffle flavour! I have no idea what the crispy bits are, but it gave it good texture.
Tomato Soup, Grilled Cheese Sandwich
The tomato soup didn’t disappoint either. I felt that it tasted like it would make a good tomato pasta sauce.
Wagyu Beef Burger, Caramelized Onion, Cheese, Mixed Greens
For the main course, this was my choice. I can declare that this was the best burger I had in Singapore! (But for the record, I have not really tried many.)
The patty was super thick, juicy and tender. It was grilled to medium rare as requested. The bun was crispy but not oily, unlike those served at Fat Boys. If you’re into gourmet burgers, this one’s pretty good.
Spicy Pork Sausage, Eggs Any Style, Roasted Cherry Tomato, Ranchero Sauce, Toast
My dining partner opted for this one since she loves sausages. Basically I couldn’t find any fault with every part of this. The tomato bursts in your mouth (literally) and the spicy pork sausage was really good as well! It was spicy as mentioned so those who cannot take spiciness should not try to challenge this.
French Toast, Coconut Cream, Caramelized Pineapple, Pink Peppercorn Maple Syrup
They mentioned that this was one of their signature items among the dessert options so I went with this. The French toast was thick and eggy and drenched with maple syrup. Again, I couldn’t find any fault with this and I really liked it! It’s my second time having French toast for dessert and this one didn’t lose to my first experience. The pink peppercorn gave it interesting twists as it was spicy in the numbing way if you happen to bite on it.
Cognac Vanilla Crème Brulee, Berries
This is a simple dessert but this rendition was one of the better ones I’ve had. The cream was very smooth, soft and creamy but the cognac taste was minimal to me – not that it matters to me actually since I prefer vanilla flavour.
After the whole meal, both of us were very full. Perhaps getting 1 set and 1 a la carte item to share among 2 would be a better idea instead, since the portions were quite big. Tea was not included in the menu so we both got some tea to aid in digestion.
Overall: I really enjoyed the food here and would love to try their normal lunch or dinner food soon!
