It was a last minute decision to dine here because SUN Japanese Dining at CHIJMES was closed and Lei Garden was the best alternative in the vicinity I could think of.

This restaurant has been around for a long time and I never thought of trying it somehow. I was under the impression that it was just mediocre because I did not particularly love the food when I last dined here more than a decade ago, even though this chain is highly acclaimed in Hong Kong making it into the Michelin Guide.

The restaurant was big and reservations were not required for lunch on a weekday. The interior was quite posh and classy.

Roast Pork

This was one of the better ones I’ve had so far. The skin was crispy and crunchy while the meat was tender but not too fatty. Almost perfect in my opinion.

Salt Water Tofu

This was ordinary but passable

Rice Rolls with Prawns

This did not disappoint. Definitely order-able!

Custard Buns

I thought that the pretty chocolate swirl appearance of the buns would mean that the content was lack lustre because it was the case at Mandarin Court, but I was pleasantly surprised when it actually met my expectations of good custard buns!

If custard buns are your thing, do order it and you’ll not be disappointed.

Mini Egg Tarts

I am happy to say that the egg tarts here are one of the better ones I’ve had. The pastry is light and flaky and did not have funky oil taste or commit the mistake of being underbaked. it is not easy to find egg tarts which satisfies me and this rendition is very legit.

The bill for 2 came up to about $48 which I find is moderate in value. I must say I am satisfied with the food here and I cannot wait to try the Michelin Starred restaurant in Hong Kong!
