So I just came back from Shanghai and was having post holiday blues, I decided to continue living the Shanghai life by looking for Shanghainese food in Singapore. Imperial Treasure is a chain I trust and their Shanghainese Cuisine concept which took over the space which used to be Coca Steamboat (I think) in Ngee Ann City looked like the best option I have.
Dan Dan Noodles
Pardon my ignorance, but only now did I realise that Dan Dan Noodles can refer to many types, and not just the spicy chili oil minced meat one I’m used to seeing. This version has a thick peanut soup, something like diluted spicy peanut butter (sorry my description sounds gross but I didn’t mean it that way). I certainly have not seen this before and I think it’s a Shanghainese thing.
Xiao Long Bao – $7.80++
Yes of course I had to get the xiao long bao. This one was alright but wasn’t the best in Singapore.
Sheng Jian Bao
This is the other iconic Shanghainese dim sum on par with the fame of xiao long bao. This one was not good though. I don’t recommend it.
Deep Fried Sesame Balls
I wanted to try this in Shanghai but didn’t manage to find time for it in the end. I’m glad I could find it here.
These are beautifully decorated to look like olden day coins. I liked the chewiness and sweetness of these. I would definitely get it again.
This is.. well.. a fried bun. It’s lame and I didn’t have more than a mouth. I didn’t choose this item so don’t blame me!
There were some hit and misses but overall pretty good. I would order different items if I do return to try again!
Overall: Not many Shanghainese restaurants in Singapore to choose from and this one is not bad.
