Tatsuya – Lunch | Hungry Bird

This restaurant has been on my to-eat list for a long time. I wanted to try it last week but they were full. So this time, I made my reservations in advance!

The area of the restaurant was pretty small, so do make your reservations early.

We got counter seats, so there was a full view of some of the chefs in action.

The lunch sets were pretty affordable. I was caught between the Lady’s Lunch and the Sushi, Yakizakana set, but I chose the latter anyway as I wanted cod!

Sashimi, Unajyu Bento – $30.90++

Pardon the poor picture quality, as it was taken by my dining partner. I tried a piece of the tempura prawn and I liked it! It wasn’t the “fluffy” sort of flour batter but it was fried to perfection, without the thick and tough oily texture.

Sushi Bento – $30.90++

Sushi, Yakizakana Bento – $28.90++

Based on the menu, it seemed like they forgot my salad.

The nigiri sushi was very well pressed and it didn’t come apart even when I flipped it upside down. The sushi rice had the correct taste and texture as well. The raw fish was very fresh too! there wasn’t any fishy smell to any of them.

The cod with mentaiko was one of the better ones I’ve had. It was juicy, soft and flavourful.

The chawamushi was one of the better ones around, only behind Aoki and Tomi Sushi. It excelled in both taste and texture. It was silky soft (but not as soft as Tomi Sushi’s) and almost free of bubbles inside. There was a herb taste to it, which I think is rosemary, which made it unique. There’s no other ingredients in the chawamushi, which is what I like. I do not like those which are choked full of meat or mushrooms or what have you.

Overall, I would recommend this place for quality Japanese cuisine. The ala carte menu is of a different price range so I would recommend lunch only if you have a budget to keep within.
