There have been quite a few changes to the basement food hall of Takashimaya, in comparison to perhaps, 2 or 3 years ago, and I haven’t really gotten a chance to explore what’s new and good.

One which caught my attention was Mignon’s Steak & Grill, which serves steak at an affordable price, comparable to budget steak restaurants like Astons and Republic of Steak.

As Astons has gone downhill and is officially off my “cheap and good enough” steak directory, I was hopeful that Mignon could fill that place. Moreover, the location’s convenient.

There are a few seats available and business was brisk tonight, with almost all tables filled.

Ribeye Steak 230gm – $19.90+

Under that piece of meat lies corn, carrot, broccoli and mashed potato.

The steak itself wasn’t anything special. It probably is the same quality as $6 rib eye steaks you find at NTUC. However, they seasoned the meat rather thoroughly and I could taste that the meat was very seasoned in deed. Mine’s medium rare and it was rare enough for my liking. The meat was tender enough and overall, it’s acceptable and I wouldn’t mind having it again if I have steak craving but cannot afford better meat.

US Tenderloin Steak – $26.90+

Cuts from US are more expensive than the normal ones. I wanted to get the US ribeye too, but they didn’t have it, so I settled for the normal one (Australian/ New Zealand) as above.

As tenderloin is thick, getting the doneness right is not an easy task. This tenderloin was sadly, not very evenly cooked. While the meat itself was probably alright, the cooking wasn’t done to perfection.

 

There was no service charge but GST is applicable.

Overall: not a bad choice, for a budget meal in orchard
