After some serious shopping, tired legs and thirsty throat made me crave for some afternoon tea. As we were in Takashimaya Departmental Store, I suggested TWG which is located within the store, at level 2. There’s no better place for tea than TWG anyway.

I had the 1837 Black Tea ($11++) while my friend had the Apple Tea ($11++).

Both teas were good but I preferred my 1837 Black Tea. It has a slight fruity aroma, but it’s quite bitter too taste. It was slightly puckery too, likely due to high tannin content. Paired with macarons, the tea was just right unsweetened.

The Apple Tea was similar to that I had at Antoinette.

Macarons were $2.00++ each. No GST and service charge if you choose to takeaway.

1837 Black Tea & Blackcurrant

The blackcurrant taste was distinguishable but the taste of the tea wasn’t.

Earl Grey Fortune & Chocolate

I could detect the taste of earl grey in this so it’s not bad. However, it could have been stronger.

Bain de Roses Tea

This tea is one of my personal favourites so I had to order it in macaron form. However, I felt that the filling tasted slightly stale. In fact, all 3 macarons didn’t taste very fresh. I understand that macarons should be aged 1 to 5 days, depending on type of filling, but perhaps it was kept longer than it should.

 

As for the quality of the macaron shells, it’s passable. It isn’t too brittle, and the centre is chewy and full, without hollows. It is better than most macaron places, but I personally feel that Et Artisan Sweets does it better.

Overall: you can get the tea for much cheaper if you buy a packet home to brew, but I guess sometimes when you’re tired from shopping you just have to pay a premium price for a pit stop with warm service to regenerate the shopping energy.
