In search of the best waffles in Singapore, I decided to revisit Stranger’s Reunion despite being there before and not really fancying their coffee.
They have quite an extensive menu, of mainly brunch items like eggs and stuff.
Without even thinking I went straight to getting waffles, since that was the objective!
Waffles with Vanilla Ice Cream, Strawberry and Banana – $8.50
The scoop of ice cream is insanely big! It looks 4 times the size of that served at Wimbly Lu. However, I doubt the ice cream is on par in standards with Wimbly Lu’s. Anyway, I didn’t try this as it wasn’t my order.
Waffles with Maple Syrup, Strawberries and Blueberry – $8.50
All waffles are $8.50 and it’s quite an average price, considering that it’s what Wimbly Lu charges too. I requested for no bananas and that’s what I got. The waffles were freshly made and the batter is quite fragrant. It was crispy on the outside and soft inside. However, it was quite dense and cakey. I would prefer a more airy waffle. Nevetheless, it can be ranked among the best waffles in Singapore!
Hot Chocolate – $5.50
I was badly in need of some chocolate and was glad they served hot chocolate in their menu. There was a slight layer of dense foam on top (not too airy) and it was served with mini marshmallows. However, it was not served piping hot somehow. Tastewise, it was quite average. In fact, the capsule of Chococino from the Nescafe Dolce Gusta series has better tasting hot chocolate, where the chocolate is rich and dark.
Baby Chino – $3.00
Just like how the name suggests, this is actually meant for kids. It’s foamed milk with chocolate on top! It looks really cute though.
As indie cafes are all in the rage now – the sort where everything looks very run down, and furniture looks like they were supplied from a Karung Guni man (rag & bone man, Singaporean style) serving all day breakfast, Strangers Reunion can get really crowded especially on weekends. Do plan your trip wisely!
*****
Ambiance: 6/10
Food: 7.5/10
Value: 7/10
Overall: definitely not a café with the best food but probably a place to soak up the indie ambiance if that’s your interest.
