After years of only trying English Afternoon Tea, I am now a convert to oriental style high tea experiences. Unfortunately there aren’t many establishments which offer tea with tea snacks but I am glad that there’s Tian Fu Tea Room by Si Chuan Dou Hua which offers the perfect experience in my opinion.
I came here on a Sunday afternoon without prior reservations and was pleased to know that it was relatively empty and quiet which provided the zen and relaxing ambiance I was after. Boisterous and crowded restaurants or tea places do not provide a conducive environment for chilling out. The high rise location made things even better because I love the panoramic view. Fortunately, the haze wasn’t a problem and skies were clear so I could enjoy the view in full glory!
For high tea, they offer the Imperial High Tea set which comes with 2 teas paired with 9 types of tea snacks and their signature bean curd as dessert. The menu changes monthly and may be different at different outlets. The set goes at $30.00++/pax and is reasonable in my opinion given the quality and ambiance and is priced like most other English Tea sets. What’s best was that the teas offered this month was what I wanted to have anyway so there’s no reason to say no. It was as though this menu was crafted specially for me.
Overall, I loved everything I had and the portion was just right. I was satiated after the whole tea session which lasted about 2 hours and a half. Perhaps being one of the only few customers at that point of time helps as the quality of every item was good and properly executed. The items were brought out slowly and served fresh and warm.
This was one of the more memorable tea sessions I ever had and it was lovely enough to make my interest in English High Tea drop significantly.
