Potato Head may sound familiar because it is. It’s the same PTT group behind the famous beach club in Bali and hipster bar Potato Head Folk which took over Tong Ah building in Singapore (which I haven’t had the chance to go to yet).

In Jakarta they have a few restaurants with different concepts and this one called Potato Head Garage is located in an abandoned stadium which has been revived to house several restaurants. Hence, the restaurant space is huge.

Just look at this entrance. I knew it was worth the traffic jam of more than an hour (which means an hour of feeling pissed) when I saw this.

Potato Head Garage’s concept is a steakhouse, more formal than the other concepts they have. On my way here I passed by Potato Head Restaurant in Pacific Place mall.

Besides steaks, they have other main courses which looks pretty good too but of course I want to try their steaks. They also have a full fledged bar counter and an extensive list of whisky and whisky cocktails. It seems like whisky is their specialty.

The space is huge with super high ceilings. It does look like you converted a convention hall from Singapore Expo into banquet hall, but with nicer finishing touches.

Ordered a whisky cocktail. I was quite excited that they specialise in whisky since this is my preferred kind of spirit.

Tuna Tartare – 80.000 IDR++
Red radish, julienned ginger, avocado, minced chili, shallots, chives, sesame seeds

Tokusen “Wagyu” Ribeye 400g – 700.000 IDR++

Steaks are cooked using rambutan wood fire. They have various cuts and types of cattle and I picked this because it’s a local beef since I don’t think it’ll be found outside of Indonesia, and it was really good. The best steak I’ve had in recent times. The price is definitely value for money! A lot cheaper than what you can find in Singapore for sure. This portion feeds 2.

Sauteed Green Asparagus with Poached Egg and Mousseline sauce – 50.000 IDR++

This was available as a side dish. I highly recommend it.

I am obviously a dessert person so I had to try their desserts even though I was full. Everything on the dessert menu looked appealing and I wish I could have more than one. This was a fruity dessert and I ordered because I saw the word “COCONUT” but I wish I had gotten something richer like chocolate. Anyway, it was still good.

I love this restaurant and would recommend anyone going to Jakarta to try. Love the unique ambiance and the delicious food. Would love to try their other concepts of restaurants too.
